You're gone, but you're still here
Far away while still near.
I can't reach you though I try
You can't hear me when I cry.

Your open eyes no longer see.
Your milky gaze passes over me.
You're so close yet so out of reach.
The seeming distance too far to breach.

Your breath it comes and it goes,
Rapid once, then it slows.
Your hands grasp at thin air,
Reaching for things that are not there.

Yet I refuse to say good bye,
to you on your bed as you lie.
I can't let go, yet I can't hold on.
You're still here, but you're already gone.
